I was a student at Awahono School in Greymouth and this is where I shared my learning.

Hunting and Fishing
On April first we had hunting and fishing competition. I had to write a description about hunting and fishing. I had to use present tense and vivid words to describe. We also had to write as if we were there at that time.
Strolling down from our parked car, I hear the growl of a tractor’s engine. I walk further down and see there is a red truck with deer and pigs hanging down from the stock crate. Near the truck there are fish hanging from hooks. Splash splash from the eels in small plastic boxes makes me jump slightly. I walk forwards then I move out of the way because there are multiple utes coming towards me. I walk along the utes then end up at the huge white tent. I can smell the weird aroma of cooking meat and chips. I go and climb up a tree to wait for a while and to give me something to do. I decide to climb down again to stroll around. Then I walk to the stag truck again to admire the stags. A weird feeling comes across me, the feeling of anger and disgust. I feel sad for the poor fish. What did the fish ever do to you? I think silently. I then change my mind and I walk to the tent slowly to get some chips. Then I wander back to look at the stags. Their tongues are hanging out of their mouths, making me look away in disgust. I then walk to sit down in the huge white tent because it’s time for the major spot prizes to be handed out.

Cycle Safety
We were learning about cycle safety with Constable Joss. After our session we had to write a description about our cycling. We had to use present tense and vivid words to describe.
We just finished the safety stuff, now it’s party time! I line up on the yellow line by the court. I am at the back of the line which means I need to wait what feels like forever. I’m ready to go now. I start to go slowly before I gradually pick up speed then I circle to make sure there is no one in front of me. I start to go very fast then jump off the see-saw. I then go around the corner then speed up to jump again. When I jump, then turn to zig-zag, I hit the ladder and it feels like an earthquake waking me up in the middle of the night. I’m back at the end of the line now. I wait, I wait a little, a little bit more, come on this is getting boring! I wait a little more, come on, this is taking forever! I’m at the front now. I start like a race car. Zooming down the zig-zags, I go speeding round the corner, trying to take off. I fly off the see-saw then slow down slightly to stop then start to zoom off again. I come to the back of the line and now it’s time to wait.

Swimming Sports
We had to write a description about our swimming sports. We were learning how to write a detailed description, also how to use present tense and vivid words.
Swimming Race 🏊
Swimming Race 🏊
Plop, I jump into the water, grab onto the wall and with my arms behind me I face the pool. TAKE YOUR MARKS, GO! I’m off, the water is flowing around my face. The colourful lane rope beside me slowly changes colour. The further I go it seems like the pool is getting longer. I’m breathing every three strokes. When I breathe I see spectators watching then when I put my head back down I can’t see them any more.
Half way through my legs slowly become lifeless. People are cheering for other people. I can hear them when I breathe but then I can’t. People rocket past me but I don’t care much. I look to both sides and there aren’t any people behind, which means I’m coming last, but I don’t care much (although I would like to come first). I breathe in some water then I start to choke.
The bottom becomes closer which means I’m getting close to the end. I’m nearly at the wall. Ow! I just hit the wall. I raise myself up and then get out of the water. I then receive my time and hand it in. I walk back to my seat and wait for my next race.

That was summer
In our class we wrote a poem about summer. We got our inspiration from the poem summer by Marci
Ridlon.
Ridlon.
That Was Summer
when the waves
were crashing down
on the beach
pulling you slightly
every time,
the sand deforming
every step you take?
Remember how the
rocks rolled away
after you pushed them?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you hit the water
in the pool
or hit the ground
after jumping off
a pile of rocks
or the time when
you saw the clouds
swiftly blow away
in the wind?
Remember how the waves
nearly stole your shoes?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you drank L&P
at the car park
with your bare feet
getting burnt by the hot ground
or when you went to the waterfall
and stood on a rock in the water
and thought “I’m the king of my own island”?
Remember how the time
came when you had to go?
That was summer.
Remember that time
when you went
swimming in the river
when your dad said
not to
or when the iron
from the tracks on the digger
felt like flaming hot lava
or when the rocks
hurt your feet
when you were at the river?
Remember how the
sand covered your
feet and the heat made you
want to stay there forever?
That was summer.
